Looking for an adorable lapdog that will steal your heart? Look no further than the French Bulldog! With those cute bat ears, wrinkly face, and sturdy body, you’re sure to turn heads wherever you go. But it’s their fun-loving and affectionate personality that really makes them stand out. These pups are natural companions and love nothing more than snuggling up with their human. Plus, there’s so much more to love about Frenchies!
Good watchdog not a great guard dog
Maybe it’s because they like being the center of attention. Maybe it’s because they are a little bit territorial either way Frenchies are good at warning you someone has arrived at your property. They aren’t generally known as yappy dogs and they certainly aren’t known as big tough guard dogs. Think back to any police dogs you’ve seen in the past. How many of those tough K9s were Frenchies? Not very many is the answer so don’t expect any heroics if you are in trouble they are far more likely to lick than bite an intruder.
Great For Small Apartments
French Bulldogs are small, quiet, and well-behaved dogs. These characteristics alone make Frenchies perfect for living in small spaces. They don’t need a huge amount of exercise and won’t irritate your neighbours with constant yapping and barking.
Frenchies Don’t Require Much Exercise.
French Bulldogs need minimal exercise. Even short walks of fifteen to twenty minutes are enough to keep this breed healthy when enough indoor space is provided.
They Are A Perfect Companion Dog
French Bulldogs can be a bit stubborn at times, but they are generally very friendly and easy to get along with. This makes them a great choice for families with other pets or children. Compared to some other breeds, they are also relatively easy to train. Frenchies thrive when they have company, and they usually get along well with other dogs. If you have a busy work schedule, having another dog around can help prevent your Frenchie from feeling lonely.
Frenchies are Relatively Easy to Train
With the right techniques Frenchies are just as easy to train as any other dog. They are the type of dog that loves to follow a routine. If you establish a routine and stick to it (not as easy as it sounds) your pup will stick to it too.
French Bulldogs Earned Their Reputation for Stubbornness
With a little patience and the proper motivation (food treats), they’re willing to learn. Stick to a routine and make it fun. Expect your Frenchie to “forget” commands or not hear commands when the mood takes them.
They’re a Short-Nosed (Brachycephalic) Breed
French Bulldogs are prone to certain health issues due to their brachycephalic (flat-faced) structure. Breathing difficulties, dental problems, and overheating in hot weather are common concerns. Care must be taken to avoid overheating.
Noisy Breathing, Noisy Sleeping, Get Used to Snoring
The short snout looks adorable but does cause some trouble with breathing. This shows itself when they are exerting themselves, when they aren’t exerting themselves and even when they sleep. This Frenchie on YouTube is the perfect example fast asleep but still making plenty of noise.
Expect grunting, snorting, snoring and the occasional bark if they are startled.
Those Bulldog Jaws Are Really Powerful
Their flat faces give them a disadvantage when it come to footballs but rope toys and small crew toys will meet their match with the powerful jaws.
